  ORGANIZATION

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is the independent authority responsible for the development of a national curriculum, a national assessment program and a national data collection and reporting program that supports 21st century learning for all Australian school students.

ACARA's  head office is based in Sydney and work is carried out in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including teachers, principals, governments, State and Territory education authorities, professional education associations, community groups and the general public.

  CHALLENGE

For ACARA the ability to communicate extensively and efficiently across a wide distributed work force is crucial. Frequent travel for national data collection and reporting programs is required, which is a costly and time consuming challenge with such a large group of stakeholders.

In combination with national travel, ACARA used a monthly web based video conferencing subscription, which soon proved to be a costly service with limited interoperability between other video conferencing systems.

With communication on a weekly basis, ACARA needed a video conferencing solution that would reduce the need for travel, lower costs and have the ability to communicate with other standards based systems. With ACARA’s continues growth they required a scalable solution for potential to expand and a mobile / android video solution for their mobile  workers.

  SOLUTION

After a thorough evaluation of video conferencing options, ACARA found Vidyo Video Conferencing technology to offer the best solution to their needs, as it is ideal for video communication between large distributed workforces and delivers HD quality video conferencing over any network  to any device. Other important advantages in the Vidyo solution included its interoperability, in which most brands can freely communicate with other brands and its cost effectiveness.

To manage the implementation and management ACARA appointed eVideo Communications, Australia’s leading Videoconferencing and Telepresence Communications Company.

“Our certified video engineers successfully managed the installation of Vidyo equipment which included , the VidyoPortal, VidyoRouter, VidyoReplay, VidyoGateway and eVideo eCare Maintenance., “ eVideo CEO & Managing Director Tom Morgan.

The VidyoPortal is at the centre of the solution providing ACARA with an easy to use web-based video conferencing environment that offers flexibility and control for administrators at all levels. Communicating with a variety of government and educational authorities ACARA can now send guest links to non-credentialed users via the VidyoPortal to join a video conference.

The VidyoGateway provided the important advantage of interoperability, allowing ACARA to connect to other legacy and standards based video conferencing systems used by their stakeholders.  The VidyoGateway also connects to a IP-based PABX,  allowing ACARA to connect their video conference to a teleconference. This is extremely useful in national- wide meetings where remote areas have  limited  and slow internet access.

With video communication being a large component in daily communication, eVideo developed a disaster recovery plan in case of unforseen damages or system failures, which included eVideo eCare Maintenance Service Plan and the VidyoRouter for delivering low latency HD-quality video conferencing over any network to any device.

  RESULTS

ACARA sees immediate and long-term benefits of using the Vidyo VC solution. Since implementing the Vidyo  solution ACARA has reduced national travel significantly whilst still benefiting from face to face communication via video.  The cost benefits have been huge when compared to ACARA’s monthly video subscription fees, not to mention being replaced with an easy and hassle free video conferencing experience.

“ACARA are really impressed with the Vidyo VC solution, thank you for selling us such a wonderful product.” -  Isaac Hartono, ACARA IT Support Officer

Opportunities for  company collaboration have expanded with Vidyo’s  three tier solution ensuring all staff members can communicate via video from either their Apple iPads,  Mobiles, PC or legacy systems.  ACARA mobile workers have seen the greatest benefit having previously had no means of video communication, they now use their iPad’s over a 3G network to connect to staff members.

eVideo’s video conferencing solution has made a positive difference in ACARA  interaction by providing employees with richer communication, improving collaboration and reducing travel time.
